ABOUT THE CN SUSTAINABILITY SUMMIT

• 19 OCTOBER 202215HATFIELDS, LONDON

In recent years, sustainability has shot to the top of the global agenda as we become acutely aware of what is at stake for our planet should active change not begin to happen immediately. There is no doubt that sustainability is a concept the world must embrace, but before we do so, it’s important for us to understand what sustainability actually means, and entails.

The sustainability summit will look to dig deeper into what the events sector is doing well and what more can be done. It’s an opportunity for us to take a temperature check and measure our sustainable impact, discuss best practices, and suggest ideas on how to tackle the key issues holding us back when it comes to creating a sustainable future for events.

Legacy Panel

The legacy of an event is the long-term positive impact or return on investment the event will have on the host area culturally, economically, and physically. Such an important aspect of this is the carbon footprint of the event, its environmental impact and potential for positive social change. What can we learn from some of the fantastic events that have taken place in the UK over the past few years to help create more sustainable events that leave a positive legacy?

To chair:

  • Martin Fullard, Editorial Director at Conference News

On the panel:

  • Shaun Hinds, Chief Executive at Manchester Central
  • Joel Lavery, Strategic Lead Major Sporting Events at West Midlands Growth Company
  • Mark Bannister, Production & Operations Director at Toucan
  • Anita Howard, Strategy Director at ICE

Carbon Calculating Panel

With so much technology now available to track our event’s carbon footprint, are we doing enough to mitigate our environmental impact? This panel will look to explore whether organisers are doing their due diligence when it comes to carbon calculating to ensure we create a more sustainable future for events, and what can be done to influence our delegate behaviour.

To chair:

  • Matt Grey, Founder at event:decision

On the panel:

  • Chris Thompson, Chief Executive Officer at You. Smart. Thing.
  • Chrissie Beck, Events & Experiential Sustainability Consultant at Worlds Better

Organiser Expectations Panel

Are organisers, venues, suppliers, and delegates doing enough to ensure we create a sustainable future for events? Who does the responsibility fall to? This panel will investigate how the full supply chain can work together synergistically to create events and experiences with as little negative environmental impact as possible.

To chair:

  • Louisa Daley, Reporter at Conference News

  • Joe Harris, Deputy General Manager at 15Hatfields
  • Duncan Reid, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder at Reset Connect London
  • Dale Parmenter, Chief Executive Officer at DRPG
